We have had another beautiful day here in Antarctica, two zodiac landings & cruising around looking for wildlife. I still can’t get enough of my little gentoo penguins, the chicks are so curious and if you just stay still, they will come up to you and wander around for a while, trying to figure out what you are. One of the guides said that she’s seen them experience snow for the first time and looking at the sky as if it was falling..
The biggest highlight of today was leopard seals. We have seen quite a few of them but was lucky enough to have them come right up to the zodiacs today. They were literally circling us for a while which makes one feeling slightly nervous since they are about 4 metres long and very agile. However, our guides are very knowledgable and keep us safe at all times. I have enclosed some photos so you can have a closer look.
This evening, we had an Antarctic barbecue on the deck which reminded me about winter in Sweden…but I can’t say I have ever had a barbecue in between glaciers and icebergs, very special indeed. Speaking of Sweden, it’s been over 15 years since I’ve walked in deep snow and it brought back an avalanche (yep, had to do that) of memories. When it’s cold, there is simply no substitute for some fun in the snow.
Only a few days left now before we head back to southern Argentina.
Cheers,
Esbjörn
